도널드 트럼프 미국 행정부 고위 당국자는 13일 언론 브리핑에서 트럼프 대통령의 G7 정상회의 참석 계획을 공식 발표하며 종전 이후 구상도 일부 공개했다. 그는 “이란과 합의가 이뤄지면 이란은 통행료를 징수하지 않고 호르무즈해협을 개방할 것이며 미국은 대이란 해상 봉쇄를 해제할 것”이라고 밝혔다.

이어 “다음 단계는 호르무즈해협에 설치된 기뢰를 제거하는 작업이 될 것”이라며 “이는 미국이 수행할 수 있는 임무이지만 G7 회원국 가운데에도 상당한 역량을 보유한 국가들이 있으며 일부는 이미 협력 의사를 밝혔다”고 말했다. 그러면서 “G7 국가들이 가능한 범위 내에서 협력한다면 상황을 가능한 한 빨리 정상으로 되돌리는 데 큰 도움이 될 것”이라고 덧붙였다.
